Building an email list is one of the best ways to make money online. Recently I made a purchase that included the following audios as a bonus that I could sell or give away.

If you are like me, you have hundreds or thousands or PLR articles on your hard drive that you would like to put on your web sites, but perhaps you are concerned about duplicate content.

Today I listened to someone talk about the importance of having a list. It was a 71 minute speech and the speaker stressed over and over that building an e-mail list should be your number one priority if you want to make a living online.

He quoted one professional Internet marketer who said that if all of his Web sites and all of his money were taken from him, he could bring his business back within minutes as long as he had his subscriber list.

The speaker said what turned him onto the importance of list building was the book Multiple Streams of Internet Income by Robert Allen. In the book Robert Allen tells how he built up an e-mail list and then challenged a major newspaper that he could make $24,000 in 24 hours.

They took him up on this challenge and sent a crew out to video tape Robert Allen making $24,000 in one day. Mr. Allen sat down at his computer, sent out one e-mail to his list, and within minutes he had made $1,000. Within 24 hours he made $96,000 just from his e-mail list.

The speaker went on to say that with a list of 10,000 you can make a good yearly income. What you need to do is e-mail your list regularly, like every Friday or whatever day you choose. In the e-mail give them a link to your site where the rest of the newsletter can be read.

Fill the newsletter with good content, 2-3 ads, and some Adsense. Giving a free download of something related to your niche is a great way to encourage your readers to open every e-mail you send.

Here are some numbers: Say you have 10,000 people on your e-mail list. You are constantly working to bring in new subscribers so your list is growing despite the people who unsubscribe.

Doing some basic math you figure out that each person on the list makes you an average of $10 annually. Depending on the niche this could be higher or lower.

To figure out how much your list is making you, divide the number on your list by the amount they spend in one month and multiply by 12. That gives you the yearly average for one person on your list.

Here’s another interesting bit of news: The typical Web site has a conversion of .2%. The typical list has a conversion rate of 25%. That means if your Web site brings in $100 a month, if you had a list you would probably be making about $12,000 a month.

What makes the difference in conversion rates? The difference is that you have built a relationship with your list. The people that happen upon your Web site are strangers. Fewer of them will buy from you.

How do you build a relationship with your list? By building trust, communicating with them regularly (weekly is good), and giving them good information for free.
